Leap to Teacher: A unique program for paraprofessionals

The main purpose of the LEAP TO TEACHER program at Queens College is to enable working paraprofessionals in the NYC Department of Education to further pursue their education and advance their career.

Undergraduate study
Participants can enroll as a freshman or transfer student, depending on the number of previous credits gained. A vast array of academic and education majors are offered.

Graduate study
Queens College offers a wide range of graduate master's degree programs in education. These include Early Childhood, Childhood, Middle, and Secondary Education. There are also specialized programs in Counselor Education, School Psychologist, Special Education, Literacy Studies, TESOL, Bilingual, Educational Leadership and others.

LEAP TO TEACHER provides a full range of support services for all participants. These include:

  • Direct admission through LTT
  • Admission, registration and proactive advisement
  • Supportive faculty, staff and student community
  • Career development opportunities and workshops
  • Free ACT, CPE & NYS teacher certification test preparation options (including online distance learning prep workshops)
  • Flexible course offerings for education majors in early evening hours
  • Information about scholarship/grant opportunities for eligible students
