English Language Arts Council/UFT
As the UFT's English Language Arts Council (ELAC), we are the professional organization for all teachers of English Language Arts in elementary, middle, junior and senior high schools and alternative schools in New York City. As a UFT member, you are automatically an ELAC member. We hope you will participate actively in the many varied programs of our committee!
We provide workshops, seminars, lectures, advice-sharing forums, film screenings, poetry readings and trips for both new and experienced teachers. Our meetings are held at UFT headquarters, 52 Broadway in Manhattan, on the fourth Wednesday of each month of the school year with the exceptions of November, January and June. Meetings are free and open to all UFT members.
ELAC is also a proud affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) which you can also join as a member and purchase their periodicals and professional books at discounted prices. You may also want to attend some of their local and national conventions.

All UFT members are eligible to join. Non-UFT personnel, including university employees and union members affiliated with the New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO, NYSUT, or AFT, may serve as associate members.
