    At this LearnUFT session for Manhattan teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will examine research-based practices to support students before reading complex text, experience pre-reading activities that encourage students to make connections that will foster deeper comprehension during reading, and apply strategies that motivate and engage students with task and text. Participants will earn two CTLE hours.

  • IEP 101: An Introduction to IEPs (LearnUFT Bronx) Workshop 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

    In this LearnUFT workshop for Bronx teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will discuss the research behind special education policies, identify the components of an IEP and examine and use criteria for developing a PLOP and a SMART goal. Participants will earn two CTLE hours.

  • Strengthening Literacy Skills Through Vocabulary Instruction: What's the Word? (LearnUFT Bronx) Workshop 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

    In this LearnUFT workshop for Bronx teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will advance knowledge to deepen understanding of numbers and operations in base ten (P-5) and number systems (6-12) through engaging in professional collaboration and develop a toolkit of effective instructional strategies to support the standards for mathematical practice and the instructional shifts. Participants will earn two CTLE hours.

  • Educating Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (LearnUFT Bronx) Workshop 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

    In this LearnUFT workshop for Bronx teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will develop an understanding of autism spectrum disorder and behaviors associated within the spectrum, employ instructional strategies to engage students and address educational needs and understand the role of the educator in supporting students with autism spectrum disorder. Participants will earn two CTLE hours.

    This LearnUFT workshop is specifically designed for high school paraprofessionals. High school classrooms are unique and this workshop will address issues specific to those learning environments. Participants will earn two hours of CTLE credit.

  • Igniting Writing Instruction to Strengthen Student Engagement (LearnUFT Queens) Workshop 8:30 am - 10:30 am

    At this LearnUFT session for Queens teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will practice strategies for engaging students productively in the writing process, make connections between pre-writing activities and the writing process, and experience activities which facilitate writing through speaking and listening. Participants will earn two CTLE hours.
