2024 UFT Spring Education Conference Workshops

The annual UFT Spring Education Conference features a variety of workshops that address timely and relevant topics for educators. This year's conference will include workshops on the following five topics. Members can attend two hourlong workshops and earn two CTLE hours.

Bringing Math to Life 

Embark on a transformative journey with Illustrative Mathematics and immerse yourself in a professional learning session designed to enhance teaching through real-world examples. Participants will engage in innovative strategies that cultivate conceptual understanding and empower students to embrace the beauty of mathematics. 

The Science of Reading: Making a Difference for All Learners

The Science of Reading is an effective and powerful approach to teaching reading, based on more than half a century of research. During this professional learning session, participants will develop a deeper understanding of the Science of Reading and build a toolkit of resources to support daily instruction.

MindUP for Life

Learn how daily practices can positively impact your life. The MindUP Life principles will help you better understand your brain, improve self-regulation and develop a positive mindset that will infuse optimism, kindness and gratitude in all aspects of your life. With a basic understanding of how your brain works, a mindful awareness experience, and a dive into a gratitude practice, you will leave this session with ready-to-use, highly adaptable practices that will help you create a happier, healthier, life.

Literacy Supports for English Language Learners

Participants will explore language supports for the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) Into Reading curriculum and engage in literacy practices that strengthen academic language and enhance student engagement and outcomes in the English as a new language classroom.

Graphic Novels in the Classroom: A Resource for English Language Learners and All Students

Learn about exciting new graphic novels and comic books designed to be used with students in our classrooms. Topics include the histories of both Asian American and Latino American leaders. The books come with free teaching guides so you can use the resources right away. Creators and distributors of the graphic novels will be on hand to talk about the books and answer questions.
