Our general membership meetings of the UFT Retired Teachers Chapter will provide you with the latest information about important issues facing our chapter and union.

The UFT's annual Black History Month film series will run from Thursday, Jan. 29, to Thursday, Feb. 26, this school year. The theme is "Echoes of Resilience: Stories of Heritage and Struggle." From the preserved traditions of the Gullah Geechee people to the frontlines of health care activism and personal battles for identity and survival, these films celebrate the enduring power of our community. Each screening will be followed by a guided discussion. Join this session to view the documentary Takeover.

The UFT Irish Heritage Committee is inviting UFT members to celebrate Irish culture and history. The cost to attend is $20 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Enjoy a traditional Irish buffet dinner capped off with coffee, tea and dessert.

Please join Queens dual language teachers for our ongoing discussion of best educational practices and for addressing misconceptions that TBE is less valuable than dual language programs. We will use this time to connect with one another and share our experiences teaching in dual language classrooms.

Please register for the February meeting of the Speech Improvement Chapter. We'll update you on issues of importance to the chapter and the union as a whole.

Earn two hours of CTLE credit with the UFT Teacher Center. Teachers and paraprofessionals are invited to register for an engaging professional learning session about developing rich language in early childhood classrooms. Explore how internal speaking and listening opportunities deepen comprehension and critical thinking in young learners. Through interactive strategies and real classroom examples, educators will learn how language-rich environments honor every child's voice while building confidence and joy.

Staten Island UFT members are invited to attend a workshop on sabbaticals. Teachers, psychologists, school counselors and social workers with 14 or more years of service and high school teachers with 7 or more years of service are eligible for a one-year sabbatical to enhance teaching skills or restore health during illness. At this workshop, you'll learn about the application process and guidelines.

High school educators may bring their students to Future in Focus, an event to show public school students what unionized careers in New York City look like. In an open exhibition hall, students will move freely among tables and speak with union members representing public- and private-sector unions and building trades. You may register to bring your students to one of three one-hour sessions.
