About the ADAPT Community Network Chapter

ADAPT Network

AFT President Randi Weingarten, left, when she was the president of the UFT, helped negotiate the first contract in 2003 with then-Special Representative Howard Schoor. The current chapter leader is Thara Baucicault, center.

ADAPT Community Network, formerly known as the UCP of NYC Chapter, came into being when we signed our first contracts in June 2003. Our chapter has grown and we now have 1,000 members in 13 bargaining units across more than 40 work sites.

We represent teachers, teacher assistants, direct care workers, clinicians, and other support staff in ADAPT Community Network's schools, an Article 16 clinic, adult day programs and residential sites in the five boroughs.

Our members work 24/7 with cognitively and physically challenged children and adults, teaching them the academic and adaptive skills they need to be as independent as possible while assisting them with essential activities of daily living.

The chapter office is located at UFT headquarters, 52 Broadway, 16th floor, New York, NY.
