United Cerebral Palsy of NYC

The UCP of NYC Chapter first came into being with the signing of the first contracts in June 2003 and has grown to include over 700 members in four bargaining units (Lawrence Avenue, Avenue S, West 23rd Street, and the Residences) across more than 30 work sites. We represent teachers, teacher assistants, direct care workers, clinicians, and other support staff in UCP’s school, Article 16 clinic, adult day program and residential sites in Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island. Our members work round the clock with cognitively and physically challenged children and adults, teaching the academic and adaptive skills necessary for them to be as independent as possible while assisting them with essential activities of daily living. Our UFT at UCP Chapter, as it has come to be known, is serviced through the UFT Brooklyn Office under the supervision of Brooklyn Borough Representative Howard Schoor, who has led the organizing and negotiations for the past ten years.
