A SAVE room (named after the acronym for the state school safety law - Safe Schools Against Violence in Education) is an area or room that houses students who have been removed from their classrooms or suspended from school, or, in the case of elementary schools, suspended from "buddy schools." The room must be staffed and instruction provided by a licensed pedagogue.

All teachers, guidance counselors, secretaries, social workers, school psychologists, career and technical teachers (CTEs), and lab specialists are covered by ILOD. Paras are covered for up to one year in cases of assault; otherwise they should apply for Workers’ Compensation. In certain circumstances, lab specialist and CTEs can also choose Workers’ Compensation, unless appointed to TRS.

UFT members who take an approved unpaid leave will get all of the rate increases that other employees will receive upon their return. In addition, they will receive all of their retroactive pay so long as they return from leave by Oct. 1, 2023. Employees who miss a scheduled lump-sum payment will be paid on Oct. 1 of each year until all payments are made.

Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) are mandated. This is a standard one-page form that is part of the proposed new contract. For teachers developing unit plans, this one-page form distills the work to only one page even for teachers who teach more than one subject or class.
