Today, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced his resignation from office, which will take effect August 24, 2021. New York State Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul will assume the role of governor upon Cuomo's departure. 

UFT President Michael Mulgrew issued the following statement:

"We look forward to working with Kathy Hochul on the challenges facing New York State, from COVID and the economy to the needs of public education," said Mulgrew.
