School Safety
Here you will find information on the programs, workshops and services offered by the UFT’s School Safety unit as well as relevant forms and contact information. Our mission is to ensure that your safety and rights are protected and to help you cope with the aftermath of an incident as you begin the recovery process and resume your professional responsibilities.
Incident reporting
If you know of a safety incident, report it! The UFT has an online reporting system to make it easier for members to report threats to the safety and security of staff and students. Accurate reporting is the first step in creating a safe environment in every school. Read more >>
What do we do?
- Safety workshops: We offer workshops on safety planning, the Student Discipline Code, the Chancellor’s Regulations on safety, and other topics.
- School safety planning: We assist educators in developing school safety plans.
- Victim Support Program: The Victim Support Program, co-sponsored by the UFT’s School Safety unit and the DOE, provides psychological support and practical assistance for staff members who are victims of workplace violence. All services are free and completely confidential.
