Chapter Chair

Dear Colleagues,

We are the family child care providers in New York City who have joined the union to fight for fair wages and benefits and to enjoy professional development to enhance and support our work. We provide a safe, nurturing and educational environment for thousands of the city’s children, who range in age from six-week-old infants to rambunctious school-age children who come to us after school.

We provide children with age-appropriate activities while supporting their cognitive and social development. We advocate for our children and our families; in turn the chapter advocates for and supports members in the areas of licensing, wages, work environment, empowerment, benefits and professional development. In addition, we come together to make sure our lawmakers in the city and state understand how crucial our work as professional entrepreneurs is to the social fabric of this city.

We provide safe, learning environments for thousands of children in accordance with state and local laws, and we are routinely inspected for compliance. At all times, at least one caregiver who is certified in CPR and first aid must be present onsite. To maintain our licenses, we must participate in ongoing professional development.

We take these responsibilities seriously. After all, our parents depend upon us to work with them to help their children take those first steps to success in school and life. We love what we do, we know our work matters and we are proud to be members of the UFT.

There has never been a better time to join us! Call 212-598-9288 to find out more about membership in our chapter.

Sincerely,

Tammie Miller

UFT functional chapters

Functional chapters are so named because what unites these student-support professionals is their function rather than a worksite or a school. The chapters were formed to allow these UFT members with common issues and concerns to have a voice.
