UFT members also are members of the AFT, which offers benefits, discounts and promotions to its members with its AFT+ Member Benefits Program. These benefits can only be accessed by visiting the AFT+ Member Benefits page and logging in with your UFT NYSUT member ID. (If you do not have an AFT member card, you will need to create an account. Make sure your last name matches the last name on your UFT card. Enter your UFT or NYSUT ID number. Your "local union number" for the UFT is 00002.)

You're also entitled to NYSUT member benefits and UFT Discounts.

Insurance

  • Accidental death and dismemberment 
    All active, working and retired members in good standing qualify for a $5,000 accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance policy from Federal Insurance Company, a member insurer of the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies. The AD&D coverage is a benefit of you being an active or retired member of the UFT, so no application is necessary.
  • Auto and home insurance
    AFT members save up to 10% on policies from MetLife.
  • Disability income
    This is a voluntary insurance program with MetLife that will provide nontaxable replacement income if you are unable to work due to an accident or extended sickness.
  • Life insurance
    New members can apply for $5,000 of term life insurance with no premium payment required.
  • Long-term care insurance
    AFT+ partners with LTCR to provide insurance for paying for nursing homes or home health care.
  • Pet insurance
    Pets Best offers discounted pet insurance plans. Pet insurance reimburses you on your veterinary bills when your dog or cat gets sick or injured, giving you peace of mind as a pet parent.
  • Senior term life insurance
    AFT+ provides economical Senior Term Life insurance coverage for older, active and retired union members and their spouses wanting the peace of mind of helping to ensure that their families do not inherit all of their bills.
  • Trauma coverage and free counseling
    The trauma counseling program is available to working members, free of charge, in the one-year aftermath of a covered traumatic incident.

Legal and financial services

  • Credit card
    The AFT+ credit card program offers three options.
  • Credit and budget counseling
    Members are eligible for a free consumer credit counseling session, budget analysis and money management advice.
  • Free identity theft protection
    All AFT members have AFT-sponsored ID theft protection at no cost. Services include an ID theft risk assessment, limited credit restoration and recovery services, and up to a $10,000 reimbursement. Register online to maximize program protections.
  • Money transfers
    Save on money transfer fees when you send money online to more than 51,000 payout locations throughout Latin America, Europe and Asia.
  • Mortgage program
    The UnionPlus mortgage program, with financing available through Wells Fargo, is available to union members, their parents and their children.
  • Personal loans
    Credit-qualified members can take control of their finances by consolidating high-interest consumer and credit debt into a personal loan that features no hidden fees and one predictable monthly payment.
  • Real estate rewards
    Members can earn $500 cash back for every $100,000 in home value (an average of $1,173) through this rewards program powered by SIRVA.
  • Save My Home hotline
    Members facing foreclosure have access to confidential, free counseling provided by the nonprofit Money Management International.

    Members save 40% on this personalized meal planning app.
  • Restaurants
    Through UnionPlus, members can save at restaurants like IHOP, Macaroni Grill, Maggianos, Carraba's, Johnny Rockets, Little Caesars, Chili's, Applebee's and more.

Scholarships

  • Robert G. Porter Scholars Program
    Four-year, $8,000 post-secondary scholarships and one-time $1,000 grants are available to students who are dependents of AFT members.
  • UnionPlus Scholarship Program
    Scholarship amounts of $500 to $4,000 are available to current and retired union members, their spouses and their dependent children.

  • NewsGuard literacy tool
