Spotlight Series
UFT members never fail to show up when it matters most. Here, we celebrate those who go above and beyond to truly make a difference.
Shaudé Tyson
In order to put students first, Shaudé Tyson knows that developing and retaining excellent educators is a must. That’s why, besides her work as the chapter leader at PS 262 in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, Tyson focuses her energies on mentoring new teachers despite having an incredibly full plate. Tyson also received the 2026 FLAG Award for Teaching Excellence.
Amy Craine
UFT members at the six sites that make up District 31 Pre-K Centers on Staten Island are no longer staying silent in the face of mistreatment from their principal, thanks to Chapter Leader Amy Craine who rallied her members for a vote of no confidence in the principal. Ninety-six percent of the roughly 130 members at the six sites — also known as Richmond Pre-K Centers (Cohort B) — supported the vote.
