Chapter meetings & consultations

Creating a consultation committee and scheduling monthly meetings with the principal as well as holding schoolwide chapter meetings are important roles of the school chapter leader.

Article 19H3 of the DOE-UFT contract states, "The head of the school and the school chapter committee shall meet once a month during the school year to consult on matters of school policy and on questions relating to the implementation of this Agreement.”

The school consultation committee empowers and gives voice to all UFT-represented members of the school chapter and provides a forum to discuss and resolve issues at the school.

In addition to school-level consultation, there are monthly consultations for functional chapters, high schools, community school districts and Chancellor's consultation with the UFT president and DOE chancellor.

Chapter leaders should submit a consultation summary for each consultation meeting. These should be submitted as soon as possible but no later than the following month, as the information from these summaries are used for district consultation and Chancellor's consultation agendas.
