Special Education Resources for Parents and Families

Parents and families can find information and support from these resources, organizations and guides designed to help you navigate special education in New York City public schools and understand your child’s educational journey.

If you want to find federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies related to educating students with disabilities in New York City, our main Students with Disabilities section is an excellent place to start.

In addition to the resources listed below, Advocates for Children has many resources, including guides, tips and fact sheets for families, all of which are informed by decades of experience supporting and representing families of children with disabilities.

Information about your child

NYC Schools Account (NYCSA) is your gateway to access important information about your child.  In addition to your child’s grades and test scores, information about your child’s IEP can be found in NYCSA.  If you do not already have a NYCSA account, find out more about the NYCSA parent portal and how to register for an account »
