Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment/Neglect Workshop
This required training provides New York mandated reporters the tools to recognize and report instances of suspected child abuse or maltreatment. Recent amendments to Social Services Law §413 prompted the New York State Office of Children and Family Services to update the curriculum to include trauma, adverse childhood experiences, bias in decision-making and identification of abuse/maltreatment virtually.
New York State added an addendum requirement for those who took the mandated “Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment/Neglect” workshop during the 2024-25 school year. Originally, this addendum had to be taken with the same provider that you took the workshop with last school year; however, we were able to get the New York State Education Department to agree that our members could take the addendum through the UFT Teacher Center regardless of where they took the original workshop.
If you still need to take the entire child abuse workshop (not just the addendum), you can do so for free through the state Office of Family Services. These updated workshops already include the new addendum.
Registration for upcoming workshops will be posted when available.
You must be logged in the entire time to complete the training. The certificate will be sent to you, and the UFT will upload proof of completion to the New York State Education Department website. Your TEACH account will be updated within a few weeks.
