Help Jamaica recover from Hurricane Melissa
Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica on Oct. 28 causing widespread devastation. Homes, schools and communities have been severely impacted. Thousands of families—especially children—are in urgent need of support.
The United Federation of Teachers (UFT) has launched a disaster relief drive to provide essential supplies and show our solidarity with the people of Jamaica. When disaster strikes, we stand together.
What we’re collecting
We are accepting new or gently used items in the following categories:
Non-perishable food: canned goods (vegetables, meats, beans), rice, pasta, powdered milk, baby food and formula
Toiletries and hygiene items: soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, feminine hygiene products, diapers, baby wipes and deodorant
Children’s clothing: shirts, pants, jackets (all sizes), new socks and underwear, shoes and sandals in good condition
Drop-off locations
Donations can be dropped off at any UFT borough office or participating school site.
