My teacher certification is expiring. What action should I take? How do I apply for an Initial Reissuance?

If your certification is expiring you need to do the following to apply for your professional certificate:

  1. You will need to apply for the appropriate certificate through your Teach account.
  2. You will need to email your Human Resource Director to request that your work experience be posted
  3. Send an email to mentorverification [at] schools [dot] nyc [dot] gov (mentorverification[at]schools[dot]nyc[dot]gov) to submit your mentored experience.
  4. Follow up with a UFT certification specialist, especially if you have further questions.

If you have not met all the requirements for your professional certificate, you can apply for an initial reissuance of your initial certificate. This will be valid for 5 years.
