A round of golf and raising money for a good cause — two things that made the UFT’s Invitational Golf Outing to benefit the UFT Disaster Relief Fund the perfect event for Chapter Leader Anne Marie Cortes of IS 75 on Staten Island. “I play a couple of times a year,” said Cortes, who put together a foursome for the Oct. 26 outing at Silver Lake Golf Course on Staten Island. “The organizers did a great job.” A nor’easter forced the event, originally scheduled for Oct. 13, to be postponed. Still, 100 golfers came out on the rain date of Oct. 26 for a day of golf, lunch and prizes. “It was a great turnout and everyone had a great time,” said UFT Brooklyn High Schools Special Representative Jason Goldberg, who co-chaired the event. Noting the need for disaster relief as Hurricane Melissa bore down on Jamaica and Cuba, Goldberg added: “We did it the UFT way — having a great time while providing support to those who need it.”
