The following notification was emailed to all members as part of the UFT Update on January 26, 2024:

The city’s in-service and pre-Medicare health care negotiations continue with the two remaining finalists, EmblemHealth/United Healthcare and Aetna. As the Municipal Labor Committee and the city negotiate with the two companies, we are pushing for major changes to the system, including guaranteed transparency on costs and data, expanded access to mental and behavioral health, a proactive managed care system and stronger primary-care and out-of-state networks. This is a real opportunity to improve health benefits for our members, and we will only agree to a plan that offers us the same or better coverage than we currently have. We will keep you updated on this process as it moves forward.
