Information on in-service Affordable Care Act (ACA) and New York State (NYS) mandated prescriptions
If you or your dependents take any Affordable Care Act or New York State-mandated drugs, such as diabetes medication, contraceptives or low-dose statins, those are filled through your city EmblemHealth plan. EmblemHealth has moved its pharmacy benefit manager to Prime Therapeutics instead of Express Scripts. Your ACA and NYS-mandated prescriptions have been automatically transferred to Prime Therapeutics for you.
If you would like to receive these drugs from retail pharmacies:
- Your retail pharmacy options remain the same. You will still be able to pick up your prescriptions, including 30-day supplies of acute medication prescriptions and 90-day supplies of maintenance medications, at retail pharmacy networks.
- Bring your NYCE PPO or HIP HMO ID card when picking up your medications. In the unlikely case that your current pharmacy is not in Prime Therapeutics’ network, you should have received a letter with instructions for finding a new pharmacy near you.
If you would like to receive these drugs via mail order:
- Mail-order prescriptions will be filled by Amazon Pharmacy. Ask your doctor to send your prescription directly to Amazon Pharmacy for any new ACA/NYS-mandated prescriptions that you would like to receive by mail.
- You do not need to create an Amazon Pharmacy account to use this service.
- Optional: If you would like to manage your mail-order medications online, you can create an Amazon Pharmacy account or call 844-536-4074. Amazon Pharmacy is different from a regular Amazon account. You do not have to be an Amazon member to create a pharmacy account. If you are an Amazon member, you must go to the pharmacy section to set up your access. Once you create an account, you will be able to see your existing eligible medications.
Not sure if you are on an ACA or NYS-mandated prescription?
Here’s how you can find out:
- Call the UFT Welfare Fund at 212‑539‑0500.
- Email the UFT Welfare Fund at RXhelp [at] uftwf [dot] org (RXhelp[at]uftwf[dot]org).
- Call your doctor or pharmacist and ask if any of your medications are ACA or New York State-mandated drugs.
Please note in-service members receive most of their prescriptions through the UFT Welfare Fund and nothing is changing with the Welfare Fund. If you receive any medications through the PICA drug program, there is also no change to the way you receive those medications.
