Early Childhood Conference 2023
Nearly 400 educators learned how to engage their youngest students with play at the UFT’s 15th annual Early Childhood Conference on April 1 at union headquarters in Manhattan.
UFT Jewish Heritage Committee Labor Seder 2023
The UFT Jewish Heritage Committee and the Educators’ Chapter of the Jewish Labor Committee kicked off the Passover season with a Labor Seder on March 30. The event at UFT headquarters in Manhattan connected the themes of liberation and redemption in the Jewish story of the exodus from Egypt with the struggles of the modern-day labor movement. This was the first time they gathered for the annual ritual since 2019.
Contract Grade-Ins
UFT members demonstrated through "public grade-ins" across the city on March 30, 2023, that educators deserve respect and autonomy in their next contract.
Paraprofessionals Festival & Awards Luncheon 2023
Paraprofessionals from across New York City celebrated colleagues’ achievements, learned new skills at workshops and enjoyed games and self-care activities at a carnival during the 2023 Paraprofessionals Festival & Awards Luncheon at the New York Hilton Midtown on March 25.
Lunar New Year Banquet 2023
A packed house of UFT members gathered at House of Joy restaurant in Chinatown on March 10 for the annual Lunar New Year Banquet organized by the UFT Asian American Heritage Committee.
UFT Lobby Day 2023
Nearly 800 UFT members traveled by bus to Albany on March 13 to advocate for full funding for New York City public schools and expansion of successful union programs including the UFT Teacher Center, and to oppose charter school expansion in the city.
HERstory 2023
UFT members came together for the union’s annual HERstory celebration on March 11 in the UFT Queens borough office to acknowledge the challenges women have overcome and celebrate the achievements they have made, individually and collectively.
School Counselors Conference 2023
Hundreds of school counselors gathered at UFT headquarters on March 11 for their chapter’s 19th annual conference. Excited to be gathered fully in-person, they heard from UFT representatives and speakers in their field, had warm reunions and networked with colleagues.
School Social Workers Appreciation Day 2023
More than 900 school social workers from the UFT Social Workers and Psychologists Chapter gathered in person at union headquarters and remotely for a free day of professional learning and networking with colleagues.
Middle School Scavenger Hunt
UFT members and their families and friends raced against the clock to uncover the “secrets of Grand Central Terminal” at the Middle School Division’s first-ever scavenger hunt on Feb. 4, 2023.
Class trip to the NYC Fire Museum
Staten Island 2nd-graders learn about fire safety and about the history of firefighting during a class trip to the New York City Fire Museum in SoHo.
CTE Awards 2023
A standing room-only crowd packed Shanker Hall on Feb. 3 as 450 educators, community partners and family members gathered at UFT headquarters to celebrate career and technical education in New York City public schools. The annual event’s theme was "Rebirth and New Beginnings."
African Heritage Awards Dinner 2023
“Thriving Into Our Future” was the theme of the 20th annual UFT African Heritage Committee Awards Dinner Dance on Feb. 3 at Antun’s in Queens Village. The event coincides with Black History Month in what Chair Wendy Walker-Wilson has described as “a way for us to celebrate our culture.”
Contract Teach-Ins
At schools across the city, members gathered with their colleagues for “teach-ins” on Jan. 30, 2023, about the UFT’s contract negotiations.
Coalition for the Homeless holiday toy drive and celebration 2022
The UFT welcomed 80 children to union headquarters on Dec. 10, 2022, for a special holiday celebration organized in partnership with Coalition for the Homeless.
Nurses Conference 2022
Hundreds of UFT-represented nurses gathered for discussions on the state of hospital care and updates on infectious diseases, as well as workshops covering key concerns, at the Federation of Nurses/UFT’s Professional Issues Conference on Nov. 18 in Shanker Hall at UFT headquarters in Manhattan.
New Retiree Luncheon 2022
More than 1,400 recently retired teachers attended one of two New Retiree Luncheons at the New York Hilton Midtown to celebrate the new chapter in their lives. The Nov. 22 reception was for members who retired from September 2021-August 2022. The Nov. 29 luncheon was for members who retired from September 2019-August 2021, a time when the COVID-19 pandemic prevented large gatherings.
Thanksgiving Luncheon 2022
It was an early Thanksgiving celebration for 160 students in need, including some migrants who arrived in New York by bus in late summer, as they marked the occasion at UFT headquarters on Nov. 19 with a holiday meal, new winter wear and a variety of activities during the union's Thanksgiving Luncheon and Winter Coat Drive hosted by the UFT Middle Schools Division.
Psychologists Appreciation Day 2022
More than 100 school psychologists celebrated the sixth annual Psychologists Appreciation Day both in person and remotely with workshops and networking on Nov. 10 at UFT headquarters in Manhattan.
Teacher Union Day 2022
More than 1,000 educators, family and friends honored UFT members at the New York Hilton Midtown on Nov. 6 during Teacher Union Day, an annual event that commemorates the 1960 strike that won collective bargaining rights for the union.
Queens and Staten Island Parent Conferences 2022
Parents in Queens and on Staten Island joined the UFT’s parent conferences in their boroughs on Nov. 5 to learn how New York City public school educators are helping their kids succeed.
Making Strides 2022
UFT members in all five boroughs and on Long Island raised thousands of dollars by participating in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks in October.

Labor Day Parade 2022
More than 700 UFT members marched up Fifth Avenue in the city’s Labor Day Parade, the first one held since 2019 because of the coronavirus pandemic that hit early the following year. As they waited for their turn to march, the union’s members gathered for a pre-parade celebration.

A Contagious Dose Of March Madness
During the UFT-sponsored March Madness initiative in which union members at roughly 200 schools participated, Horace Harding School PS 206Q Chapter Leader Emma Gomez inspired colleagues to produce unique celebrations for each school day that month.

UFT members across the city protested the mayor's harmful budget cuts to schools during a Day of Action on June 22, 2022.
School Secretaries Awards Brunch 2022
The UFT honored 17 school secretaries at an awards brunch on June 11 at union headquarters in Manhattan. The union also recognized three current and former school secretaries for their contributions over the years and honored secretaries who recently passed away, including those lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.

NYC March for Our Lives rally
UFT members and New York City public school students joined the youth-led March for Our Lives rally against gun violence on June 11 as protesters marched over the Brooklyn Bridge to Zuccotti Park in lower Manhattan.
