Salary jumps 3.5% on Sept. 14

New York Teacher

Paydays will be a little sweeter this school year, with the fifth and final salary increase of the five-year contract taking effect on Sept. 14.

The salaries of UFT-represented employees will increase by 3.5% effective Sept. 14 as a result of the wage increases the UFT negotiated in the 2022–2027 collective bargaining agreement with the city Department of Education that was ratified in 2023.

The per-diem, per-session and coverage pay rates will also rise on that date.

For teachers, the new per-session rate will be $63.04 and the new coverage rate will be $52.98.

The daily rate for per-diem teachers increases to $232.70.

Here are the tentative dates on which members will see the raise in their paychecks:

  • Q-bank members (pedagogues, paraprofessionals and substitute paraprofessionals): starting with their Sept. 30 paycheck.
  • H/Z bank members (including occupational and physical therapists and school nurses): starting with their Sept. 25 paycheck.
  • Per-diem/per-session pedagogues: starting with their Oct. 1 paycheck.

Where applicable, paychecks will include arrears back to Sept. 14.

The Sept. 14 raise follows a pay increase of 3.25% that took effect a year ago.

The next annual bonus, which will be $1,035, will be payable around May 1, 2027.
