The UFT Retired Teachers Chapter honored those with 50 or more years of union membership at its annual RTC Luncheon.

Tom Pappas, a “tough as nails” but kind educator and administrator who began teaching in 1957 and went on to serve as a district representative, borough representative, UFT assistant, UFT secretary, staff director and Retired Teachers Chapter leader, died on Feb. 13, 2026. He was 93.

Beginning in March, UFT retirees can expect a partial reimbursement from the UFT Welfare Fund -- for as much as $900 for some retirees -- for the cost of an optional prescription drug rider.

SHIP 2026 premium notices were sent in early January to retirees who did not elect to pay premiums via automatic pension deduction.
