Required minimum distributions
UFT retirees who are turning 73 in 2026 and have a tax-deferred annuity (TDA) account have to begin making annual withdrawals from their TDA (called a required minimum distribution or RMD).
1099 tax forms
The Teachers’ Retirement System issues 1099 tax forms each January to people who received distributions from TRS in the previous year.

The RTC's Labor Solidarity Project offers retirees an outlet to practice their union activism, proudly standing with striking nurses and with other causes.
TRS’ ‘proof of life’ form
TRS may ask retirees to complete a Retirement Allowance Verification Form annually. If you receive such a letter, don't ignore it.

The UFT is seeking retiree instructors to teach Si Beagle continuing education classes.
Union pillars honored
The UFT posthumously honored two accomplished members who died this year and presented their families with memorial plaques: Ron Jones, a former vice president for elementary schools, and Richard Miller, a former vice president of middle schools.
