The award winners at the UFT District 11 Scholarship Dinner Dance receive a warm reception from school staff, community leaders and local elected officials.

“It felt amazing to stand among my fellow educators. We’re all superheroes,” said PS 112 Chapter Leader Celestine Clee-Harvin, who received a Veteran Teacher Award at the sixth annual UFT District 11 Scholarship Dinner Dance on March 22. About 425 school staff, students, community leaders and local elected officials packed Villa Barone Manor in the Bronx for the event, which raised more than $10,000 for scholarships for District 11 students. “This is a fabulous and morale-boosting event,” said UFT District 11 Representative Dana Falciglia. PS 76 teacher Kathryn Sutorius, who won a Seasoned Teacher Award, said, “Every single teacher deserves to be recognized for the selfless acts they carry out each day.” The district also honored staff nurse Yvette Horton of PS 121, school counselor Vincent Moliterno of MS 370, and teachers Zipporah Diaz of PS 96, Dennis Fallo of MS 144, Emily Liberatore of MS 127, Celeste Smith of PS 105, Natalie Sokol of PS 106 and Marie Tomanelli of PS 21. Three 5th-graders and three 8th-graders received scholarships.
