School nurses, led by School Nurses Chapter Leader Cynthia Bennett (standing, center), gather for the chapter’s annual dinner.
Fifty school nurses gathered for their chapter’s annual School Nurses Appreciation Dinner at UFT headquarters on May 7, timed to coincide with National School Nurse Day. “We get to catch up on happenings at other schools with fellow school nurses,” said Bernard Gabriel of P168 @ P842 in the Bronx. Another Bronx nurse, Michelle Go of P723 @ P927, cited the “great fellowship” and chance to learn “new information” and talk shop with colleagues. The nurses also met with and asked questions of UFT experts and leaders, including UFT President Michael Mulgrew, played the always-popular bingo game and took home some UFT swag and other giveaways. “Events like this offer opportunities for interaction, which can help to create stronger relationships,” School Nurses Chapter Leader Cynthia Bennett said. “And the recognition we give helps create a positive and inclusive environment.”
