Authentic Assessment Checkpoints: Tips and Guidance
Authentic assessment allows teaching teams to gather information about children's development and learning through observation notes, photos, and work samples. All teaching teams are required to complete developmental summary reports three to four times during the 2024-2025 school year, at the checkpoint dates detailed below:
- November 25
- March 14
- June 13
- August 8, 2025 (optional/for 12-month programs only).
As teaching teams regularly observe children through the work they do each day in the classroom - and these observations are a critical piece of the data teachers upload to GOLD to support a comprehensive assessment of children's growth and development - teachers are strongly encouraged to upload enough completed documentation throughout the school year, which will accurately inform the checkpoint rating at the end of each checkpoint period. Note that completed documentation consists of tagging the associated child, related learning objectives, and leveling each objective. For support with completing a checkpoint, please refer to Checkpoint -Tips and Strategies, which will provide extra support for teaching teams as they complete a checkpoint.
Additionally, note:
- Paraprofessionals/teaching assistants are not required to upload observation data in GOLD. If paraprofessionals and teaching assistants choose to engage in this process, they have their own unique login credentials to access GOLD.
- Teachers, paraprofessionals/teaching assistants, and program staff are prohibited from using their personal mobile/electronic devices to document children's engagement and learning.
- The Teaching Strategies Teacher App allows for uploading of documentation that goes directly to children's profiles; however, there is no requirement to use this app.
