Members of the UFT Jewish Heritage Committee are invited to register for the committee's monthly membership meeting. At this meeting, attendees will discuss issues pertinent to the UFT Jewish Heritage Committee.

Tikkun olam — Hebrew for “repairing the world” — was the theme for the UFT Jewish Heritage Committee Awards dinner for a second straight year. The event, which was held at Russo’s on the Bay in Queens on Dec. 5, was “joyous and festive, with the spirit of unionism and repair of the world infused throughout,” said Jason Goldberg, the committee chair.

Members of the UFT Jewish Heritage Committee gathered with family and friends on April 18 at the UFT Brooklyn borough office to celebrate Passover with a labor-rights-themed seder.

UFT members and their families filled Shanker Hall on Nov. 30 for the Jewish Heritage Committee’s first awards dinner. The committee honored AFT President Randi Weingarten and City Councilmember Julie Menin for their practice of tikkun olam, a Hebrew phrase meaning to repair the world.

The UFT Jewish Heritage Committee's goal is to enhance the understanding among all educators of the role of the Jewish community in New York City.
