At the committee’s third annual Tikkun Olam Awards Night, held on Dec. 2 at a Queens catering hall, Rosenberg was honored as Teacher of the Year. “Tikkun olam” is Hebrew for “repairing the world.” And that is what Rosenberg works toward daily. “It really epitomizes how I see my role as a teacher,” she said. “Making sure that we remember an honest history, one that doesn’t sugarcoat” the events of the past.UFT Vice President for Education Mary Vaccaro was awarded the Tikkun Olam Award, and Ann Toback, the CEO of the Workers Circle, was given the Public Service Award. The committee also awarded scholarships to three high school students. “This event is emblematic of how we as a union strive to repair the world,” committee Chair Jason Goldberg said.
