Resolution on member engagement during 2027 contract negotiations

UFT Resolutions

WHEREAS, the DOE-UFT contract is set to expire on November 28, 2027; and

WHEREAS, the UFT seeks extensive member input to shape priorities for the upcoming 2027 contract; and

WHEREAS, the UFT recognizes that its negotiating committees have grown steadily over successive rounds of bargaining, building from the 400-member team that shaped the 2018 agreement to the approximately 500-member committee in 2022, and intends for the 2027 bargaining committee to be even larger, further strengthening member representation and our collective power; and

WHEREAS, this intentional expansion of diverse member participation has consistently strengthened the union’s bargaining position and resulted in increasingly robust and impactful agreements; and

WHEREAS, the UFT is committed to ensuring that members from all chapters, districts, boroughs, and divisions have meaningful voice and are recognized as integral members in negotiating the provisions for each of their contracts; and

WHEREAS, by encouraging and utilizing the will of our membership, we provide a democratic, inclusive environment where all voices are heard and respected; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the UFT will survey all members to identify needs, shape priorities, and set contract demands; and be it further

RESOLVED, the negotiating committee shall be formed promptly, allowing sufficient time for training on collective bargaining; and be it further

RESOLVED, that the UFT will continue to mobilize and elevate collective member action through member-driven engagement, organizing, and public efforts, to build widespread support and strengthen our ability to achieve a fair, just, and representative contract.
