WHEREAS, the UFT will endorse a candidate for mayor in the November 2025 general election;

WHEREAS, mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani committed to spending a day alongside our members in a public school and participated in the Spring Education Conference, where he demonstrated his full knowledge and commitment to our programs and legislative priorities;

WHEREAS, the UFT has previously endorsed Assembly Member Mamdani in his campaign for state Assembly;

WHEREAS, Assembly Member Mamdani has pledged to advocate for the UFT priorities of protecting premium-free health care, fixing Tier 6, passing the “RESPECT check” bill for paraprofessionals, revamping mayoral control to give more say to educators and parents, committing to the full implementation of the class size law, funding the city’s pre-K and 3-K programs, defending workers’ rights, protecting New York City from federal cuts and immigration-enforcement overreach, and making the city more affordable;

WHEREAS, Assembly Member Mamdani has always been a champion for working families who has pledged to freeze rents, raise the minimum wage and provide free child care for all children up to 5 years old;

WHEREAS, public school students and educators deserve a mayor who listens and responds to their concerns, and city workers deserve a mayor who prioritizes affordability and quality of life;

WHEREAS, Zohran Mamdani is the candidate who will best serve this city; therefore, be it

RESOLVED that the UFT endorse Zohran Mamdani in the November 2025 general election for the office of New York City Mayor.
