A UFT contingent of 1,400 enjoyed a Mets game from in front of the outfield fence at Citi Field on UFT Night. Teacher Rose Zelwinder of PS 78 in Queens threw out the first pitch to teacher Monica Lalo of IS 96 in Brooklyn.

TRS honors Mel Aaronson

The new Teachers’ Retirement System’s Member Education Center has been named after Mel Aaronson, a retired UFT treasurer who served for 35 years on the TRS Board of Trustees, including four as board chair.

School Nurses Appreciation Dinner

Fifty school nurses gathered for their chapter’s annual School Nurses Appreciation Dinner at UFT headquarters on May 7, timed to coincide with National School Nurse Day.

UFT Irish American Heritage Committee dinner

Some 50 members gathered at UFT headquarters on April 13 at the UFT Irish American Heritage Committee's annual dinner for an evening of connecting with one another and learning about Irish culture, art and history.

5K Family Run/Walk

Some 200 UFT members braved storm clouds to participate in this year's 5K Family Run/Walk on Coney Island. The event raised $7,000 for the UFT Disaster Relief Fund.


Hearing aid benefit boost

The UFT has improved an important benefit for members who have experienced hearing loss. Effective March 1, members will be reimbursed up to $4,000 for hearing aids every three years. 



Victoria Lee gets UFT’s nod for TRS trustee

The UFT Delegate Assembly voted on March 19 to endorse UFT Treasurer Victoria Lee for reelection as a teacher-member of the New York City Teachers’ Retirement System board.


Federal threats loom large for members

At the Delegate Assembly on March 19, UFT President Michael Mulgrew said lawsuits filed by unions and a team of 20 attorneys general had fended off the worst cuts to Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security — but he warned that the fight was far from over.

UFT Family Day

The union's third annual UFT Family Day served up a lot of "UFT love" in the form of carnival games, bounce houses, food galore and more to members and their families at a sports complex on Long Island.

Kudos to Syreeta Dixon, IS 383, Brooklyn

IS 383 Chapter Leader Syreeta Dixon refused to back down when her principal violated the DOE-UFT contract in multiple ways in her Bushwick school’s teacher schedule and then threatened to lay off staff when Dixon called her on it.
