UFT Asian American Heritage Committee’s Moon Festival
UFT members, family and friends make crafts in celebration of togetherness and gratitude.
The UFT Asian American Heritage Committee celebrated its first Moon Festival at the union’s Queens borough office on Oct. 25. More than 150 UFT members, family and friends enjoyed a range of special activities for children and adults, from games like Gonggi (Korean jacks) to a mooncake-making station and crafts such as making lanterns, papercut art, lacquered fans and masks. “Moon Day is a time to harvest, celebrate family, feel togetherness and express our gratitude,” said UFT Treasurer Victoria Lee. “It’s meaningful to share my culture with people from other cultures in the UFT,” said Sandy Wong, the chapter leader at PS 30 in the Bronx. “We welcome everyone to our events. We are diverse, and this is where we celebrate our union with our friends and family.”
