More than 1,700 UFT members and guests packed the Grand Ballroom at the New York Hilton in midtown Manhattan on Oct. 20 to celebrate union activism past and present at the UFT’s annual Teacher Union Day event.
Teacher Union Day 2021
The first hybrid Teacher Union Day was held on Nov. 7, 2021, with 234 people, including honorees and their families, attending in person to celebrate union activism in Shanker Hall at UFT headquarters in Manhattan while 592 members joined the festivities online.

About 1,500 UFT members, family and friends gathered at the New York Hilton Midtown on Oct. 29 to honor the brave educators who put everything on the line in the 1960 strike that forged the union and the UFT activists who follow in their footsteps. This year, Teacher Union Day was dedicated to the Contract Action Teams.

The annual fall event, which commemorates the 1960 strike that won collective bargaining rights for the UFT, honored 179 in-service and retired members.

About 1,700 UFT members, families and friends gathered at the New York Hilton on Nov. 2, 2025, to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the 1960 strike that won collective bargaining rights for UFT members. At the union’s annual Teacher Union Day event, more than 250 individual members and chapters were honored for their exceptional work and longtime service to the union’s mission, including the members of the UFT Health Care Committee and the Occupational and Physical Therapists Chapter.
Retired Teachers Chapter Luncheon 2024
About 500 people attended the 58th annual Retired Teachers Chapter Luncheon on May 30 at the New York Hilton Midtown, where they recognized 13 fellow retirees with awards for their activism and congratulated a retired Queens teacher who turned 100. The attendees were encouraged to stay involved and “speak into the future” as advocates.

More than 250 UFT retirees and guests packed Shanker Hall at union headquarters for the Retired Teachers Chapter’s annual luncheon on May 23. Speakers celebrated the tenacity of union activism over the last 65 years and honored RTC members for 50 years or more of service.

The NYC Association of Foreign Language Teachers/UFT held its 22nd annual conference on Nov. 16 at UFT headquarters in Manhattan, where more than 200 participants chose from among 20 workshops during a day of professional development and camaraderie.
