Individual counseling & consultation
Speak privately with a licensed mental health professional who can assist with referrals and access to other mental health resources.
Individual Counseling & Consultations
- The UFT Member Assistance Program (MAP) offers short-term individual counseling for union members, typically consisting of 5–7 sessions. Counseling is provided by a team of licensed clinicians and supervised clinical interns who are trained to understand the unique challenges educators and union members may face—both in and outside of work.
- Short-term counseling provides a supportive, confidential space to talk through current stressors, gain clarity, and develop practical tools to help you move forward. MAP clinicians work collaboratively with members to identify goals, explore concerns, and support next steps, including referrals to longer-term care when needed.
Individual Consultations
- Not sure what kind of support you need? That’s okay. When you contact MAP, a clinician will follow up within 24–48 hours to schedule a brief consultation. During this conversation, the clinician will take time to understand what you’re experiencing, answer any questions you may have, and help determine the most appropriate next steps based on your needs.
- You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out. The consultation is meant to provide clarity, guidance, and support, helping you connect with the right services and feel confident about your path forward.
Why MAP?
- MAP clinicians specialize in working with school-based professionals and union members and understand the pressures, systems, and demands that come with this work. Our services are:
- Confidential and free as part of your union benefits
- Delivered by licensed clinicians and supervised interns trained in evidence-based, trauma-informed care
- Grounded in understanding both personal and workplace stressors
- Focused on connection, clarity, and practical support
- MAP counselors can guide you through the various resources and programs within the union that are available to you.
Our goal is to help you feel supported, understood, and equipped with tools you can carry beyond your time with MAP.
