Health Speaks: Substance Use Awareness & Overdose Response
Substance use is changing, and knowing what to look for can make a real difference.
UFT MAP is offering Health Speaks, a training series designed to help members better understand current substance use trends, recognize warning signs, and feel more prepared to respond when someone may be at risk.
This program provides school staff, educators, and the broader school community with a greater understanding of today’s evolving substance use landscape and the risks associated with illicit and counterfeit drugs, including those containing fentanyl. Participants will learn about current drug trends, prevention strategies, warning signs of substance misuse, how to recognize the signs of an overdose, and how to respond effectively in an emergency, including the use of opioid overdose reversal medications such as naloxone (Narcan).
Naloxone will be available as part of this initiative to support emergency preparedness and reinforce a comprehensive approach to prevention, safety, education, and access to life-saving resources.
Who Is Health Speaks For?
MAP is offering targeted training throughout the school year so information can be tailored to the roles different UFT members play in supporting students, families, and school communities. Stay tuned for information on when your chapter’s training will be offered.
