Where Did Antisemitism Come From? Teaching the History of Antisemitism
Where did antisemitism come from? This question — often asked when students learn about the Holocaust — is as relevant today as it has ever been. The history of this phenomenon dates back more than 2,000 years, but lessons about the Holocaust often do not consider pre-20th century history.
This workshop will equip educators to teach about the origins of this form of hatred and the development of its religious, economic, political and racialized forms. We'll also examine how antisemitism persists in modern times, allowing you to support students in understanding and combating its current manifestations. This workshop is designed for teachers of ELA and social studies and anyone who wants to deepen their knowledge of history. Participants will leave with ready-to-use classroom resources.
