Integrating Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Women's Histories is a professional development workshop designed to help educators move beyond celebration and toward meaningful curricular integration. In this free, online UFT Teacher Center workshop, participants will explore the origins and purpose of Women’s History Month, examine the role of intersectionality in historical analysis and consider why centering APIDA women is essential for a full understanding of US history. Through sample lessons featuring figures such as Mabel Ping-Hua Lee, Queen Liliʻuokalani, Patsy Mink and Tereza Lee, teachers will engage with practical strategies for embedding APIDA women’s histories into existing units on suffrage, immigration, civil rights, imperialism and education equity.
