Making Gay History Teacher Symposium and Celebration

Date
October 24, 2026
Time
9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Location
The Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture, City College of New York

In honor of LGBTQ+ History Month, the UFT Pride Committee is thrilled to invite middle and high school educators to the Making Gay History teacher symposium and celebration. This day-long event celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Making Gay History podcast and the launch of new teacher-created lessons designed to help you seamlessly incorporate LGBTQ+ history into the American story.

New York State certified teachers can receive a certificate attesting to five hours of Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) upon completion of the symposium activities.

We encourage you to participate and dive deeper into history, connect with fellow educators and equip yourself with practical, classroom-ready resources that demonstrate to LGBTQ+ students that their identities matter.

Guest speakers include Eric Marcus, founder and host of the Making Gay History podcast, Citywide Director of LGBTQ Supports for NYC Public Schools Kalima McKenzie-Simms, and Danny Dromm, former UFT member and former education chair of the NYC City Council.
