Help Ukrainian educators

UFT members are supporting fellow educators in Ukraine through the UFT Disaster Relief Fund.

UFT members who have been horrified by the devastation and death caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine can help the embattled nation’s educators by contributing to the UFT Disaster Relief Fund.

The money raised is going to Education International, which is working closely with two large Ukrainian education unions — the Trade Union of Education and Science Workers of Ukraine and the Free Trade Union of Education and Science of Ukraine — in helping those still in the ravaged nation and those who became refugees.

Nearly two million Ukrainians fled the war-torn country — the biggest displacement of Europeans since World War II — after Vladimir Putin launched the brutal assault.

As of March 23, 101 UFT members had given a total of $5,632 to the fund.

“Our members through their donations are showing their solidarity with the brave Ukrainian people,” said Alford, who chairs the UFT Disaster Relief Fund.

Two ways to donate

1) Make a contribution online.

2) Mail a check. The check should be made payable to the UFT Disaster Relief Fund, with "Ukraine disaster relief" written in the memo section of the check. Mail it to
