Ira Wolin, Age 67
Ira Wolin was a UFT member for 35 years and worked at many schools in Brooklyn and Queens over the years, including William J. Gaynor IS 49, Boys and Girls HS, Fort Hamilton HS, Paul Robeson HS, Queens Vocational and Technical HS, and Forest Hills HS. Ira worked as a teacher, athletic director, coach and dean. He coached multiple sports, including tennis, handball, softball, bowling, baseball, basketball and indoor track. Ira's boys’ varsity handball team at Forest Hills High School won back-to-back New York City championships in 2002–03 and 2003–04. He was respected and loved by his students and colleagues. Ira loved to travel, visiting locations throughout the United States, Europe and Canada, as well as expeditions to the Galapagos and Antarctica. He was a lifelong sports enthusiast and his favorite teams were the Jets and Mets. Ira is survived by his wife of 30 years, Alison Moyer Wolin, his sons Jonathan and Daniel, his daughter-in-law Rena, his grandsons Damian and Wyatt, and his brothers Mark and Randy.
