I truly appreciate the RESPECT check and what $10,000 could mean for so many paraprofessionals. But we deserve more than a one-time payment. This should become permanent and pensionable compensation. We are in the classroom every day, supporting our students and being our teachers’ right-hand support. Many paras are working two or even three jobs, selling things and finding creative ways to make ends meet. I’ve worked two jobs myself. Rent and food prices keep rising while we live paycheck to paycheck. We love what we do, but we deserve compensation that allows us to LIVE, not just survive.
