Martin Plotkin was a UFT member for nearly 50 years, most recently serving as the UFT's District 6 representative in Washington Heights.

Thomas Walsh was a UFT member for 34 years, most recently teaching English literature at the LaGuardia High School of Music and Art in Manhattan.

Marion Silton was an educator for many years, most recently working as the acting assistant principal of administration and organization on an interim basis at John Bowne HS in Queens.

Edward Markowitz taught air-conditioning and refrigeration at DeWitt Clinton HS in the Bronx for 22 years.

Johanna Schwencke taught physical education at William Cullen Bryant HS in Queens for many years and also served as the UFT chapter leader.

Dorothy Evans was a paraprofessional at PS 75 in the Bronx and a UFT member for 29 years.

Robert “Bob” Kahn was a UFT member for 50 years, most recently as a programmer at George Westinghouse HS in Brooklyn.

Sharyn Levine was a loyal UFT member for 36 years, teaching language arts first at the Arthur S. Somers MS in Brooklyn and then at IS 75 on Staten Island.

Richard Quarto taught social studies for 36 years, most recently at IS 73 in Queens.

Perdita Harrington was a UFT member for 18 years, most recently as a paraprofessional at PS 308 in Brooklyn.

Lennie Brice was an elementary school teacher, including at PS 30 in Manhattan, and a UFT member for 26 years. After retiring in 1993, she continued to work as a substitute teacher for a decade, from 2001-2011, in Harlem and also in Englewood and Teaneck in New Jersey. She was a strong advocate for children everywhere and for the Harlem community.

Marilyn Berger was an Education Evaluator at Beach Channel HS in Queens.

Gloria Eady’s 83 years on this earth took her from Pineville, South Carolina to Queens, New York.

Selina Ahoklui, the 1998 New York State Teacher of the Year, died on May 22. She was 76 years old.

Janet Gaw-Adamski was a talented teacher and loyal colleague who served as a third- and fourth-grade classroom teacher, third-grade teacher consultant and computer lab teacher at PS 58 in Brooklyn.
