Strand by Strand: Understanding the Writing Rope and the Reading-Writing Connection
Teachers and paraprofessionals are invited to register for a two-hour virtual professional learning session focused on the connection between reading and writing. Through interactive activities and student-centered examples, participants will explore the strands of the Writing Rope and deepen their understanding of how reading and writing support each other across grade levels.
Staying on Course: Using Learning Targets to Guide Scaffolding and Differentiation
Earn four hours of CTLE credit with the UFT Teacher Center. This session invites educators to consider how learning targets and success criteria can guide their instructional decisions. Participants will study the DOE's K-12 Mathematics Shifts, the five practices for teaching mathematics and how they support student learning. Using learning targets and success criteria as a lens, participants will reflect on what student work can reveal about students’ understanding.
Brooklyn Paraprofessionals Certification Meeting
Brooklyn paraprofessionals are invited to an online meeting about certification. This session will provide important information about certification requirements and offer an opportunity to ask questions regarding recent changes to the certification process.

Day of Action 2025
UFT members around the city participated in a Day of Action to show solidarity with paraprofessionals. The action was timed to coincide with the City Council’s public hearing for the “RESPECT check” bill, which would provide annual checks of at least $10,000 to paraprofessionals.
