Methods of Teaching Language and Literacy for English Language Learners
Register for this graduate-level course designed for New York City Teachers. Participants can earn three A+ or P credits towards their salary differential and 45 CTLE hours in the education of English language learners. Each 15-session course can also be used to fulfill three semester hours of the "Methods of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages" requirement for state certification in English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
The course will examine language acquisition and how it impacts the academic achievement of students learning English as a new language. Participants will explore research-based practices that develop the four domains of language: listening, speaking, reading and writing. They will have the opportunity to experience interactive strategies and practices of engaging with multimedia text that can be used to support literacy across the content areas for English language learners (ELLs).
This course provides 45 CTLE hours in language acquisition for ELLs. It can also be used to fulfill 3 A+/P credits towards the +30 salary differential. The cost is $300 for 45 hours of CTLE credit or $500 for three graduate credit recommendations AND 45 hours of CTLE credit.
If there are fewer than 15 members registered as of three days prior to the course, the course will be canceled. Everyone who registered will receive a credit toward a future course offering.
