Save the date for the 2026 UFT Early Childhood Conference. Attend day of creativity, growth, discovery and collaboration as we shape the future of education for our youngest learners. Welcoming educators serving 3-K, pre-K, K, 1st grade and 2nd grade, this event offers an opportunity to earn four CTLE hours from relevant workshops, hear from an inspiring keynote speaker and meet with colleagues from across the city. Registration will be available shortly.

Earn four hours of CTLE credit with the UFT Teacher Center. This session invites educators to consider how learning targets and success criteria can guide their instructional decisions. Participants will study the DOE's K-12 Mathematics Shifts, the five practices for teaching mathematics and how they support student learning. Using learning targets and success criteria as a lens, participants will reflect on what student work can reveal about students’ understanding.

UFT paraprofessionals are invited to register for the fourth session of a remote learning series from the UFT Teacher Center designed to explore meaningful strategies for literacy instruction. These five sessions will take place via Zoom during scheduled Monday professional development time at your school.

Through interactive activities and student-centered examples, participants will explore the strands of the Writing Rope and deepen their understanding of how reading and writing support each other across grade levels.

The course will examine cultural and language development factors that impact the achievement of students learning English as a new language. Participants will explore research-based pedagogical practices that can be used to design instruction that meets the needs of English Language Learners. Special emphasis will be placed on student empowerment and agency through inclusive environments and assessments. Participants will be required to complete a paper, midterm quiz and final project.

Join us to learn about the diversity of experiences that come along with this joyous holiday, the history of Lunar New Year in the United States, and how we can bring these experiences into the K-8 classroom! The lesson plans provided will be geared toward grades K-8.

Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities have played active roles throughout U.S. history, yet their narratives and contributions are often overlooked. When included in the curriculum, these stories are frequently taught in isolation, with little attention paid to the moments of cross-cultural solidarity and collective struggle alongside other communities. This workshop seeks to bridge that gap by equipping educators and students with historical context, shared narratives, and tools to teach AAPI history through a lens of connection and solidarity.

Earn one hour CTLE credit with the UFT Teacher Center. Join The Asian American Education Project for a live, virtual workshop. This interactive session will explore the pivotal role Asian Americans have played in shaping U.S. history, particularly in the realm of citizenship and immigration. Participants will delve into the landmark case of United States v. Wong Kim Ark, which secured birthright citizenship under the Fourteenth Amendment. The workshop will also highlight the powerful story of Tereza Lee, often recognized as the first "DREAMer," whose experience helped ignite a national conversation on undocumented youth and immigration reform. Educators will leave with a deeper understanding of these narratives as well as ready-to-use lesson plans and classroom materials.

The course will examine language acquisition and how it impacts the academic achievement of students learning English as a new language. Participants will explore research-based practices that develop the four domains of language: listening, speaking, reading and writing. They will have the opportunity to experience interactive strategies and practices of engaging with multimedia text that can be used to support literacy across the content areas for English language learners (ELLs).

Our language can build students up or tear them down. By paying attention to our words and tone of voice, we can increase student engagement, supercharge student achievements, build community and manage our classrooms more effectively. A few intentional shifts in language can foster self-regulation and nurture children's inner lives. Come learn how you can use language to encourage and support your students and connect with their parents.
