Nearly 450 school staff, administrators, community members and local elected officials turned out for District 11’s fifth annual UFT Scholarship Dinner Dance at Villa Barone in the Bronx on May 5. “It’s amazing to come together to celebrate what we do for students and the collaboration between the UFT and administration in this district,” said UFT District 11 Representative Dana Falciglia. Six students and two principals were honored, as were four UFT members. Nicole Manning of PS 21 and Jim Frey of PS 19 received veteran teacher awards, Victoria Giraldi of PS/MS 498 was honored as a rookie teacher, and Erin Dietz of PS 103 got the cluster teacher award. “Knowing my colleagues and members of District 11 saw something special in me reaffirms the work I have been doing to be an impactful educator,” Giraldi said. Dietz, a technology educator and coordinator, added, “It is really humbling to receive this award and to receive it from my peers.”
