Psychologists Appreciation Day 2025

Manhattan school psychologists (from left) Veronica Mejia of PS/IS 366, Rosanny Minaya of PS 178 and Ricardo Perez of PS 132 enjoy a day of networking and learning.

The important, yet too often overlooked, work of school psychologists was affirmed and supported at the union’s ninth annual Psychologists Appreciation Day, which was attended by around 500 members. “We’re taking the steps toward making sure that the Department of Education knows what we do, parents know what we do, families know what we do — because what you’re doing is very important,” Social Workers and Psychologists Chapter Leader Raul Garcia told members who attended the day of training remotely and in person at union headquarters on Nov. 7. Clay Cook, a former school psychologist and the chief development officer of CharacterStrong, led members in an intensive workshop on the Multi-Tiered System of Supports framework for student assessment. Lynette Hernandez, a school psychologist at PS 192 in West Harlem, appreciated the opportunity to connect with fellow clinicians and learn key information. “These events,” she said, “provide so many useful resources that we can bring back to our schools and that help us as clinicians.”
