Paraprofessionals make so many things happen seamlessly that otherwise would most likely take a huge effort, which would impede time spent on instruction, transportation and other much-needed systems. It is nice to see paraprofessionals being identified and recognized by the union for the huge contributions they make to the education and well-being of our students. This is where the focus should be for the UFT. The union should work hard to get elected officials and whomever else is in charge to increase the salary of paraprofessionals so they can make a living wage.
