UFT members have assaulted nurse’s back
A Federation of Nurses/UFT member — bolstered by colleagues and other union members gathered in solidarity — stood up in state Supreme Court on Staten Island on Aug. 14 and bravely described how an assault by a patient has changed her life.
Leading the fight for safe staffing levels
We are pleased to report that our lobbying efforts regarding safe staffing levels have been effective. In the next legislative session, Gov. Andrew Cuomo will introduce legislation setting safe staffing levels for nurses in hospitals and nursing homes.
Union lends support to assaulted UFT nurse
A courageous Federation of Nurses/UFT member faced the former patient who attacked her as he was sentenced on May 4 in State Supreme Court on Staten Island. The nurse's assailant will serve two to four years under the state’s 2010 Violence against Nurses law, which made it a felony to assault an on-duty registered nurse or licensed practical nurse after years of lobbying by the UFT.

Nurses’ solidarity sends loud message
Earlier this year, the Federation of Nurses/UFT achieved on-time contracts at the Visiting Nurse Service of New York and NYU Langone-Brooklyn Hospital that protected the nurses’ hard-fought contractual benefits, improved working conditions and included regular pay increases.
Pay increases, no givebacks for NYU Langone-Brooklyn nurses
With higher voter turnout than ever before, Federation of Nurses/UFT members employed at NYU Langone-Brooklyn Hospital, formerly Lutheran Hospital, overwhelmingly ratified a new contract on March 4 with no givebacks and a 2 percent pay increase in each of the two years.
UFT nurses ratify 2-year contract with VNSNY
After contentious negotiations that brought the union to the brink of a strike, Federation of Nurses/UFT members who work for the Visiting Nurse Service of New York on Jan. 30 voted overwhelmingly to ratify a new two-year contract that preserves their hard-fought rights and benefits.
